Selecting a item in a listview doesn't highlight the item

When you click on a list view item. The item should be highlighted with the item that was selected.

when I try and use an item that I selected like to delete a record from the sql server database. It seems to return a 0 and not the record Id that's displayed in the listview. It seems that when I select an item. The item info for that item gets displayed right. It fails when accessing records to delete, update and so on.

anyone have any ideas on this.
